Impossible List

My idea for my impossible list comes from Thomas Frank at where he said “I think I’ve had a plain old bucket list in the form of a Facebook Note ever since I was in high school. However, I never got around to anything on the list – all those things were events I figured would happen in the future – meaning some undefined time that didn’t implore me to take action now.

To fix that, I’ve created my impossible list. I got the idea from Joel Runyon, who created the world’s first impossible list and defined the difference between it and a regular ‘ole bucket list. Put simply, the impossible list is an ever-evolving list of experiences that build upon each other, help others as well as yourself, and implore you to take action. This is mine, which is, of course, ever-evolving.

This page is very personal, but I keep it here on CIG as an ever-present reminder to all who would take heed of it:

Think about what your true life goals are, and constantly evaluate your progress towards them. In other words, be mindful of your path.

I couldn’t have said it better, so here are my goals:

Current Focuses:

Right now my main focus is preparing for my Contiki trip and self-improvement, since second year is over and I have a bit of free time.

  • Get vac work for January and/or June 2019
  • Buy no new non-essential clothes in 2018
  • Start short course on investing from Investopedia 
  • Go on Contiki holiday and make an aesthetic vlog of it!
    • Pay parents loan back for trip
  • Write two articles before the end of my December/January holidays
    • Data Structures and Algorithms – MWST Assignment
    • Microprocessors project
  • Finish 4 books before the end of my December/January holidays
    • House of God – Samuel Shem
    • The Quantum Universe – Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw
    • Mars One – Norbert Kraft et al.
    • The Art of the Start 2.0 – Guy Kawasaki

  • Completed second year Electrical Engineering (Digital Arts) (23 November 2018)
  • Compete at the Pirates Running club every Tuesday for 2 months(6 May 2018)
    • Break 30 minutes for the 5K Time Trial(7 May 2018)
  • Buy an arduino – make one project from Instructables
  • Finish my self-portrait painting
  • Save R2000 a month for 10 months for a Europe trip (Contiki) in December 2018 (November 2018)

Fitness/Health Goals

  • Run a parkrun 5K (9 September 2017)

    • Run a half-marathon
    • Run The Comrades Marathon
  • Participate in a cycling race
    • Participate in the 94.7 Cycle Race
  • Do 20 dips in a single set
  • Do a plank for 2 minutes
  • Do 100 push-ups in a single set
  • Do a muscle-up
  • Do 10 pull-ups in a single set
  • Do a workout (new post coming soon) at least 4 times a week for a year – only miss 5 weeks
  • Bring enough water, food to WITS so I don’t have to waste money buying unhealthy food
  • Complete a Warrior Dash

Professional Goals

  • Land an internship at an engineering/software company
    • Get a job at a engineering/software company
  • Get to work in the UK/US
  • Start a business
  • Discover/create new maths/technology
  • Give a TEDx talk
  • Save enough money to travel to a new country every year
  • Save enough money to retire comfortably (I still need to find out what that means exactly)
